Spatial Planning

An invitation to pause on Berry Street. We partnered with Matchaful to expand its Williamsburg flagship with a dedicated Ritual Bar, space for tea education, and a window into the matcha grinding process. Warm natural materials and custom furniture bring it all together, creating room to gather and get to know what’s in your cup.

Design Intent

Give the ritual a little more room. A dedicated tea bar, space for education, and a window into the matcha grinding process bring guests closer to what’s in their cup. Low seating and a communal table invite them to settle in.

Reference + Influence

Japanese tea traditions and Matchaful’s farm-to-whisk philosophy guided the design, rooted in Everyday Ritual, Wabi Sabi Ease, and Modern Tradition. Photography from the brand’s farms in Shizuoka and handmade ceramics bring those connections into the room.

Material Details

Cipollino Verde marble anchors the Ritual Bar, its green veining set against warm maple and oak. Textured limewash and paper pendants soften the room, while exposed brick and travertine add another layer. Natural materials chosen to gain character with use.
